Sunday, Sunday

It's been a loooong time since I've posted any stories on here about the 'funny' things that happen to Ryan and I. (they're only funny after the day is over and the boys are asleep). And since today was a day to remember, I will write about it so you can all wish you were us. =)

As some of you may know, we've been on the search for a mini van for a few weeks now, and have had some pretty good luck finding deals online...I say finding because whenever we pursue them the van is already sold or the people don't respond or whatever.... Anyways, we find one we were interested in earlier this week up in Grand Rapids. Not bad, we have friends there, might as well make an afternoon of it and hangout a while. I email the owners, they email back and say 'sure, come anytime over the weekend, we're putting on a new roof, we'll be around.' Awesome. So, today after church, we tried to call them and ask if there was a certain time that would be good to show up. No answer. Whatever, they said they'd be home, so we go anyways. Dustin and Breanne are free to hang out for a few hours, we'll just head up there. [begin 75 minute drive right at nap time]. Garrett takes forever to fall asleep, so he's MR. CRABBO when we get there cause he didn't get to sleep enough. Sheeesh...not a big deal. Annoying, but oh well. Dustin drives by the house for us to see if they're home. Not home. Roofing stuff all over the driveway and the door is open, but they're not home. hmmmm... We get up there, swing by the place 30 minutes later, still no one home. So we decide to hang out first, and try stopping by again at like 6 or so on our way out of town.

So now we're on our way to our friend's parents' house...pull into the neighborhood and Ry was like...'what is that SMELL?!" We turn around, G has a hand full of runny nasty colored poop which has already been smeared on his shirt and shorts and seat belts. He's squeezing and oozing it thru his fingers and rubbing his hands together. Stop the car immediately. Ryan gets G out, I get the supplies, we strip him down and give him a wet-wipe bath with cars driving by, on the side of the road in a super nice subdivision next to our bonny with three hubcaps. Luckily I had the boys' swim shorts and shirts with us so there was a change of clothes available - not always the case. WOW. Delay = 15 minutes. Whew, got that taken care of, besides the smell in the car, and we finally pull in to Randy and Judy's place. hang out, swim a little....and the boys remind us (especially G) that they are NOT afraid of the water....

Little example of that: once they realized they could just walk out into it, temp was nice, it's pretty shallow, they were already drenched...Garrett just starts walkin out towards the end of the L-shaped dock, where Ry was sitting facing the other way dipping Ethan in the water. I'm sitting on shore with Dustin and Breanne,...we're just watchin G venture out... and they say, "I wonder how far he will go before he realizes he can't touch." (The end of the dock is pry waist deep on me- waves were minimal) Oh nope. Just KEEPS WALKING...waters like up to his neck...and I tell Ry to turn around who picks E up from where he was playing, leans over the OTHER side of the dock in time to pull Garrett out by an arm, who was completely UNDER the water by then and lifts him onto the dock- which was right when I got out there. His reaction: humm. That was fun. And just starts walking away. DIDN'T EVEN CARE. No crying, nothin. OOOOOHHH MY GOSH!!!! We had to grab him from walking off the end of the dock like 15 times too. Let's just say he's NOT AFRAID of water.

Ok, anyways, it's 6:00, time to pack up, back in the smelly car we leave to go try that house again to see if they're home. Ry says we should try calling again (they haven't answered the 3 other times we've called already today) and they answer this time, surprising....she tells me that the car sold. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Que screaming babies because they're hungry, so we get back on the highway to head home, and they both scream for the next 30 min like someone cut off their limbs. Ry pulls in to Arbys, we both get out, he goes in to get food and I stay in the parking lot cause my ears are ringing....delay = totally worth it. They eat curly fries the rest of the way home. Ryan and I decide to put the van search on hold for a while...a loooong while, since we have until November. We'll just stick to the trusty bonny for a few more months. I yi yi.

I was telling my dad of our events today, and he seems to find the 'it could always be worse side' of the story....had we got the van today, G could have pooped in THAT instead!....sigh.. He's right. It could always get worse. =) If nothing else, we got some cute pictures!

My brother did that when he was the boys age. My dad just let him keep going. Supposedly, the will struggle enough to keep themselves afloat for a while...

I was laughing the entire time though. What a day!

wow. i need to know how he got the poop from his diaper in his hands? for future reference of course.

poop details: since he was in the carseat, the diaper pretty much does 1/2 the job as a normal squat-poop-catch. When they're sitting and pooping at the same time, it could squeeze ANY direction, including up the front and out the top. THUS, poop easily accessable.

I hope you find a minivan soon--they are GREAT! I'm not one of those people who cares about the 'stigma' that goes along with driving one. :)
